nonscriptum: to a non-believer? (why does "who" even exist?)

[Beggars can't be choosers.

Nate won't refuse attention when he has so little in his possession at present, and neither will he attempt to jeopardize it by pushing back when he isn't so inclined. His own mental state aside, Nate isn't blind - Rafe is attractive in that neatly-trimmed way that suggests he spends as much time poring over the artifacts they find as he does agonizing over how to style his hair. It's clearly an art form.

The interest in him comes as a surprise - and it always does, no matter who sidles up to look him over - and his chances for refusing genuine curiosity are rapidly disappearing while Rafe permits him the break in eye contact. Presumably he's looking at the miserable state of Nate's clothes, and who could blame him?

Yeah, [Nate affirms, his throat suddenly bone-dry. He clears it and shifts minutely, just enough to put another inch between them for breathing room.] I was about to shower.
